Preparation of Infrastructure
  • 1954
    • Started out as Suncheon Nursing School, the first vocational training institution for women in Jeollanam-do and southeastern region.
  • 1973
    • Upgraded into Suncheon Professional Nursing School ‘Upgraded into a college’
  • 1979
    • Suncheon Junior College of Nursing
  • 1983
    • Change of founder to Cheongam School Foundation (Chairperson: Dr. Gil-tae Gang), ‘New Leap’
  • 1984
    • Move to current location. ‘Beginning of Deokwol-dong Era!’
  • 1993
    • Suncheon Junior College. ‘Dreaming to turn into a college for general education!’
  • 1995
    • Began to admit male students. ‘Tearing down the wall of the off-limits area to men..’

    • Opened Yeosu City Hall Campus

  • 1998
    • Changed the name to Suncheon Cheongam College. ‘Soaring toward greater world!’

  • 2000
    • Completed Cheongam Hall, opened Gurye-Gun Office Campus, opened Business Incubator.
    • Military-Academy Cooperation Agreement with the 7391st Unit of the Army

    • Completed Academic Information Center, opened Gyeongnam Sacheon Campus, opened Seonpyeong Campus inside Suncheon Correctional Institution
    • Selected for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology Project in 4 sections (specialization of nursing and health discipline, etc.)
    • Operated the school’s own overseas internship
  • 2004
    • Excellent College for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology Project in 3 sections (3-Year Project until 2006)
    • Established the school-based enterprise, Cheongam Food, through the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology
    • The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology began overseas internship program
  • 2005
    • Opened Yeompo Training Institution (located in Oenarodo, Goheung)
    • Opened bachelor degree course (Academic Credit Bank System): Nursing, Physical Therapy, Optical Science, Early Childhood Education
  • 2006
    • Excellent College for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology Projects in 3 Sections (2-Year Project for 2007 and 2008)
    • Excellent College for Overseas Internship

    • Opening of Osaka Training Institution in Japan affiliated to the school

    • Selected as the Technology Officer Training Program for Small and Medium Enterprise (1.5 billion won)
    • Ranked 7th among 148 junior colleges in Korea in the National Customer Satisfaction Index (NCSI) (hosted by Korea Productivity Center)
  • 2010
    • Operated 22 major programs (4 disciplines: 8 in natural science, 3 in engineering, 10 in humanities, and 1 in arts and sports)
    • Selected for Junior College Educational Capacity Enhancement Project of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (2.68 billion won)
    • March 1, 2010 Changed name to Cheongam College
    • June 16 Signed MOU for activities supporting industry-academy cooperation with Jeonnam Technopark
    • July 7 Designated as the project operator for Health and Family Support Center of the Ministry of Gener Equality & Family (Gurye-gun)
    • 8.2 Signed Industry-Academy Cooperation Agreement with the Korean Culture Center of Republic of Korea Embassy in Japan
    • October 5 Consultation for the sister relations with Ludong University of China
    • December 7 Signed MOU for sister relations and educational exchange with the Central Philippine University March 2, 2011 Opened

  • 2011
    • Selected for the first overseas field practice project for junior college students by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology overseas internship program (15 participants in the USA, 14 in Japan).
    • Selected as a pilot university for university information disclosure by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
    • Awarded the ISO10015 International Certificate for Employment Support Systems.
    • Selected for the Junior College Educational Capacity Enhancement Project by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
    • Inauguration of the fourth president, KANG Myung-woon.
    • Establishment of Koreans in Japan Research Institute
    • Established the Cheongam University Student Life Research Center.
    • Signed an internship agreement with U-Tech Co., Ltd. in Japan
    • Dispatch of students for local semester program with Ludong University of China (29 students, 5 departments).
    • Signed an internship agreement with ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (CTC) in Japan.
    • Designated as a four-year nursing college by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
    • Change of official school name in Korean (Cheongam-daehak/청암대학 → Cheongam-daehakgyo/청암대학교).
    • Obtained junior college institutional evaluation certification by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
  • 2012
    • Graduation of 11 international students (Dept. of Computer Information).
    • Selected for the Junior College Education Competency Reinforcement Project of 2012.
    • Selected as a subsidy support project for a university venture club in Jeollanam-do.
    • Signed an agreement with Yeosu regional office of Korea Airports Corporation.
  • 2013
    • Graduation of 3 international students(Dept. of Culture and Tourism).
    • Selected with 10 English-speaking students (USA) and 5 Japanese-speaking students (Japan) for the global field study project by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
    • Signed on junior college education competency reinforcement project agreement of 2013.
    • Completion of Cheongam school accommodation Building 4,673.59㎡ (basement 1 floor,  above ground 7 floors).
    • Signed a business cooperation agreement with Suncheon, South Jeolla Province Education Support Office.
    • Signed an agreement with Sunchon National University Business Support Foundation for start-up education exchanges.

    • "The Great Kanto Earthquake and the Problem of Koreans」 selected as planned research project by the Northeast Asian History Foundation (NAHF).
    • Jeonnam Enterprises Federation study agreement for job creation.
    • Opening of the Overseas Korean Understanding course by the Overseas Korean Foundation for 2014.
    • Selected the technology officer training project of 2014 by the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs.
    • Selected for the Specialized Junior College Promotion Project.
    • Agreement for Exchange of Start-up Education (Sunchon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Group).
    • Signed MOU with Berjaya University College of Hospitality in Malaysia.

    • Graduation of 1 international students(Dept. of Culture and Tourism).
    • Opening of Cheongsam HSHC Business Center.
    • SON Kyung-hwa, Director of Gwangyang City's Integrated Center, receives the Minister's Award from the minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
    • Selected as an organization of excellence in the 2015 distribution project evaluation by the Gwangyang City Integrated Center's Jeonnam Social Welfare Community Chest of Korea.
    • Selected for the second Global Field Trip Project by the Ministry of Education (1 participant to the USA and 1 to Japan).
    • Signed an agreement with Seigan Japanese language school in Japan for Japanese language education and field training.
  • 2016
    • Signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement with Johnson & Johnson Korea Co., Ltd.
    • Signed an MOU with Western Iowa Tech Community College, USA.
    • Selected for the global field study project by the Ministry of Education (1 participant to the USA).
    • Business agreement with the POSCO Gwangyang Center for Creative Economy and Innovation for "the establishment of the foundation for a startup ecosystem and efficient support."
    • YTN "content exchange and student welfare promotion" business cooperation agreement concluded.
    • Selected as a "Career Experience Certification Agency with Educational Donation" by the Ministry of Education (certification period: 3 years).
    • Selected as a commissioned organization of Gwangyang City's Healthy Families and Multicultural Family Support Center (January 1, 2017 - December 31, 2019 / 3 years).
  • 2017
    • Selected for the Junior Gollege Global Field Study Project by the Ministry of Education (1 participant in the USA and 1 in Malaysia).
    • Received grant from the National Hangeul Museum for a research project to investigate modern and contemporary Korean language materials in Tokyo (29,000 million KRW).
    • Signed a MOU with Burton and South Derbyshire College, UK.
    • Inauguration of the fifth president, SEO Hyeong-won.
    • Signed an agreement with China's Seoul Korean Language Training Center on Chinese language education and cultural experience.
    • Signed Industry-Academic Cooperation Group - Air Korea business cooperation agreement.
    • Signed MOU with Berjaya University College of Hospitality, Malaysia.
  • 2018
    • Designated as the Multicultural Families Base Center in Jeollanam-do (January 19, 2018 - December 31, 2020).
    • Concluded Cheongam College - AgenTec Co., Ltd. business cooperation agreement.
    • Received grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for research and service on the current status of civil society organizations related to Koreans in Japan (28 million KRW).
    • Acquired certification for nursing education certification evaluation for the first half-year of 2018 (December 11, 2018 - December 10, 2021, 3 times).
    • Selected as a “self-improving university” by the Ministry of Education's Basic College Competency Diagnosis.
    • Cheongam College - Eastar Jet Co., Ltd. Industry-Academic Cooperation Agreement Ceremony.
    • Selected as Industry-Academic Cooperation Employment Package in Jeollanam-do for 2019 (Safety management professional training project for business disasters).
    • Establishment of a consultative body for regional universities in the Gwangyang Bay area and agreement on resource sharing.

    • International student admission (2 students).
    • Cheongam College - Johnson and Johnson Korea's Vision Industry-Academic Cooperation Promotion Agreement concluded.
    • Selected for the junior college global field study project by the Ministry of Education (5 participants in the USA, 1 in Australia, 2 in Japan, 1 in China).
    • Signed MOU with East China Normal University in China.
    • Signed an agreement with Croatia's RRiF College of Financial Management.
    • Selected for a regional enterprise open innovation voucher (R D) business.
    • Signed MOU with Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Malaysia.
  • 2020
    • Signed a business agreement (MOU) with the Haeryong-Yulchon Industrial Complex Council.
    • Signed Cheongam College - Sunchon National University - Suncheon City Business Agreement (MOU).
    • Signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement (MOU) with Mr. Blue Co., Ltd.
    • Signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement (MOU) with Blue Comics Co., Ltd.
  • 2021
    • Cheongam University Industry - Academic Cooperation Group selected as an excellent business in the 2020 quality evaluation of social services, and awarded the Minister's Award by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea.
    • Acquired an “Excellent” grade in the 2020 evaluation of educational welfare support for students with disabilities.
